Tonight we went out for some "pintxos" in the historic part of town. Pintxos are like the authentic "tapas" or Spanish appetizers that are typical of northern Spain and the Basque country. These delicious little snacks (some not so little) have become a culinary art form as well as a huge social component of the culture here in San Sebastian. Most often the pintxos are on a small slice of bread, upon which the ingredient or mixture of ingredients (tortilla de patatas, variety of fish, anchovy/sardines, cheese, jamon/ham, peppers, croquette, etc), are placed and fastened with a toothpick, which gives the food its name "pincho", meaning "spike." San Sebastian is known for having some of he most elaborate, delicious and famous pintxos in the world! It was a lot of fun seeing the students faces as they picked out their pintxos - some even branched out of their comfort zone for some "pulpo"...which is octopus! Please check out our photo album!
Hasta la proxima!
